World Bank Funded Ethiopia Highway Project Completed
June, 2004, the World Bank funded Wordia ~ Alamata
highway upgrade project completed. The builder
of this project was China WANBAO Engineering Corporation,
a subsidiary of NORINCO. Several dignitaries attended
the completion ceremony, including: the minister
and vice-minister of the Ministry of Construction
of Ethiopia, the director of the Highway Bureau,
the representative from the World Bank, Governors
of the states of Tigray, Amhara and the Chinese
ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Ai Ping. After five
years construction, this was the first World Bank
highway project in Ethiopia completed on schedule.
This established a positive image and increased
prestige for Chinese companies in Ethiopia.
